About Twinality

We challenge how robots are being deployed today, giving machine-builders and machine-operators the clarity and control they need to build safer, more complex robotic systems, faster than ever before.

Mission

Our Vision

To build a world where robots and humans work safely side by side.

Experience

Our Foundation

Built on 10 years of research in digital twins, safety frameworks, and robotics automation.

Our Story

Our Journey

Research
2014
Research into robotics
Research begins into social and technical aspects affecting trust in human-robot interaction at the University of Sheffield. Early work identifies the importance of communication in building confidence in robots, particularly following errors.
Research
2015
Research into graphical languages
Research into collaborative robotics for manufacturing begins with a focus on graphical languages for communicating robot behaviours and interaction guidance to users
Research
2016
Research into industry attitudes towards robotics
Research with machine operators into attitudes towards robots identifies deep rooted concerns and recommends mitigating strategies
Research
2017
Industrial Adoption Challenges Investigation
Stakeholder workshops with industry and regulators identify safety as the primary barrier to adoption of collaborative robots beyond simple applications
Research
2019
CSI:Cobot Project Begins
CSI:Cobot project begins, applying research methods from safety-critical systems engineering to collaborative robot processes.
Research
2021
CSI:DTHive Collaboration
Successful demonstration of safety methods results in extension of the CSI:Cobot project to include mobile collaborative robots. The Health and Safety Executive join the project in a consultative role to provide guidance on regulation and compliance. Demonstration of safety methods using digital twins at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre. The digital twinning tools are identified by industrial and regulatory partners as having immediate potential in industry. The DTHive project funds further development of the tools and work with the HSE to ensure they meet regulatory requirements.
Discovery
2022
Commercial Exploration Begins
Market research begins. Further development of the underlying safety framework and refinement of digital tools.
ResearchPartnership
2023
Nuclear AMRC Non-destructive Testing Project Partnership
Deployment of twinning tools on a robotic non-destructive evaluation demonstrator at the Nuclear AMRC. Visualisation of sensor data overlayed on components provides real-time process feedback to operators.
Discovery
2024
Innovate UK ICURe Explore
Our application to the highly competitive national ICURe accelerator program results in over 300 conversations with potential customers, confirming the market and identifying initial deployment partners.
DiscoveryPartnership
2025
First Three Customer Deployments Agreed.
First deployment on a large industrial welding process. Secured first three commercial sales. Twinality spins out from the University of Sheffield.
Discovery
2025
Innovate UK ICURe Expliot
Following our success in the ICURe:Explore accelerator programme, Twinality was selected for the follow on ICURe:Exploit programme, allowing us to finalise our proposition and prepare for fund-raising activities.
